Private information should be private – so details of addresses and telephone numbers have been edited out.
However, it is in the public interest to know if a public figure is a Freemason, especially if that person is both a journalist (who may therefore experience conflicts of interest) and a published author. Moreover, given the influence of the Freemasons (and the efforts that organisation makes to control the narrative about its influence) it is no breach of privacy to share this document. The moreso because what follows below was published online by “Winchester College Society” but was immediately taken off line when it was used as a reference on a Wikipedia biography page.
Systematically this reference to Dr Selwood’s Masonic membership is wiped from his Wikipedia page using the spurious justification that the information below isn’t “reliably sourced”. Those who are doing this know that they are in the wrong, that Dr Selwood is a Freemason, that he sent out this communication and that it is more than reasonable to share this information with the public since Dr Selwood is a public figure. That they seek to suppress this information speaks volumes about them and what they believe should be within their remit to control and, ultimately, silence.
Further references to Dr Selwood’s Masonic connections are found in the following links – which, no doubt, like the ‘Winchester College Society’ link, will also be removed off line in due course:
Both advertise a 2018 Masonic Conference at which Dr Selwood will be speaking giving his personal impressions of participating in the 300th Anniversary celebrations of British Freemasonry at the Royal Albert Hall.
